PDF Manager 360 / Print inspection

Find the image that could hold up your print job.

One small picture can affect an otherwise finished PDF. Check the resolution of each raster-image placement, then return to the page that needs attention.

01
Pixels are only part of the answer

Effective DPI also depends on the physical size at which an image is placed in the PDF.

02
Use the right job target

Choose the resolution required by your printer. The available target is a review aid, not a universal pass/fail guarantee.

03
Core inspection is local

The image inventory does not need Ghostscript, Office or an upload of your PDF.

01

01 / Inspect

Build an image inventory from your PDF.

Open your working document, choose Inspect, then run Inspect document. The page summary includes image counts alongside geometry, readable-text counts and notes.

Open the Images view

See image pixel dimensions, placed width and height, effective DPI X and Y, page number and source document.

Read placements separately

The same raster image can be reused at different sizes. A small reuse may be sharp enough while a large one is below your target.

02

02 / Review

Compare resolution at the actual placed size.

A 1,200-pixel-wide picture placed four inches wide is approximately 300 DPI across. Place it eight inches wide and it is approximately 150 DPI. The source pixel count stayed the same.

Choose the print target

Set the target agreed for this print job and filter the table to Below target.

Check both axes

A stretched image can have different horizontal and vertical resolution. Review both values and its appearance on the page.

03

03 / Handover

Turn the report into an actionable correction.

Select an image row and open its page. Save the CSV inventory to give a designer the page, source and resolution details needed to investigate.

Replace the source asset

Return to the layout or source document and replace the low-resolution picture with a suitable original, then export a fresh PDF and inspect it again.

Review the final copy

Confirm the pictures visually and review the complete print output with your printer. A single resolution threshold is not a full print preflight.

FAQ

Common questions

Answers before you run the workflow

Can I export a list of low-DPI PDF images?

You can filter the on-screen inventory by your selected target. Save images CSV exports the complete inventory with the selected target and resolution status, so you can filter or sort it in a spreadsheet.

Does changing a DPI label improve image quality?

No. Recovering detail requires a suitable source image. Reducing placement size may improve effective DPI, while enlarging or resampling does not recreate lost detail.

Does this require Ghostscript?

No. The image-resolution inventory is part of the core inspection tools. Ghostscript is needed for advanced Prepress conversion and CMYK ink sampling.
