01
Use an eligible identity

A Windows certificate or USB DSC with its provider middleware supplies the signing key.

02
Preserve your input

Save a separate signed copy and keep the original unsigned PDF.

03
Check separate findings

Integrity, certificate trust, revocation, timestamps and permissions are evaluated separately.

01

01 / Prepare

Finish the PDF and connect your certificate.

Complete OCR, notes and page operations before signing. Connect the token and check its Windows provider if using a USB DSC.

Select an eligible certificate

Open Sign PDF > Digital signature / USB DSC. Review the signer and refresh the list if required.

Review the placement

Choose the page and move or resize the signature block. Add the signing reason or other available details.

02

02 / Sign

Save the signed copy through your certificate provider.

Choose approval signing or, for an unsigned file, the certification policy that fits the document.

Keep the PIN in its provider dialog

Choose Sign & save a copy. Enter a requested PIN only in Windows or the token provider prompt.

Lock only when appropriate

Lock document after signing applies no-changes certification to the first digital signature. It does not encrypt the PDF or permit later approval signatures.

03

03 / Review

Open the result and understand its signature.

The Signature panel shows what the selected digital signature covers and the available certificate findings.

Separate integrity from trust

Check signed-byte verification, identity trust, revocation and any timestamp findings. Different readers can use different certificate stores.

Inspect the revision

Locate the signature, read certificate-chain details, open its signed revision and compare it with the current file.

FAQ

Common questions

Answers before you run the workflow

Is a visible signature image the same as a digital signature?

No. Signature artwork is a visual mark. Certificate-backed signing creates a cryptographic signature over a PDF revision.

Can I sign with any USB token?

The token must expose an eligible signing certificate through supported Windows middleware. Compatibility depends on its provider and certificate; this release supports RSA keys of at least 2,048 bits.

Can I sign without uploading the PDF?

The document is processed locally. The certificate provider, trust or revocation checks and an optional timestamp service may use network connections.
